Windows fast startup on dual-boot

Hello, I have a dual-boot setup on my laptop using systemd-boot: Arch Linux on the D drive and Windows 11 25H2 on the C drive. I want to fix hibernation and fast startup on Windows. When I re-enable these options, the hibernation and shutdown buttons only put my device to sleep for about 3 seconds, after which it wakes up at the lock screen. The reboot option works correctly because it doesn’t apply fast startup. I’m aware that I can't mount the Windows filesystem in read-write mode while using Linux, and I have read the entire wiki page about dual-booting.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600H
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 (Laptop)
Kernel: Linux 6.18.1-arch1-2

Re: Windows fast startup on dual-boot

Fast-startup is hibernation in disguise, it is unsafe to boot a different operating system while another is hibernating, there's no way around this. Hibernation puts the hardware (all of it, GPU/RAM/CPU/disks into a certain state where it expects a certain state to get restored, if you switch to a completely different system while hibernation is in progress you will be in an unsafe/undefined state of operation).

Disable fast boot and if you need to hibernate make sure you boot back into Windows/linux depending on which you originally hibernated from.

Re: Windows fast startup on dual-boot

I thought it was non-invasive until I mounted the disk with another system, but if other components are also in an uncertain state, I just need to get used to it. Thanks anyway!
