No soundcards detected

Hi,

I got the new Dell XPS 14 and can't get the sound working. I tried installing sof-firmware, but then the system hangs at the login prompt with the following error message:

sof_sdw sof_sdw: Failed to register jack: -524

I had to boot from a usb and remove sof_firmware in order to log back in.

sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/* returns nothing. BIOS shows sound is on.

If sof-firmware crashes you'll need to report an upstream bug so it can get fixed. https://thesofproject.github.io/latest/ … tions.html -- also dell xps 14 what exactly, which model/year?

Something you can try otherwise is booting with

snd_intel_dspcfg.dsp_driver=1

on your kernel parameters which should force a fallback to snd-hda-intel but chances this is properly implemented are slim. You are almost certainly going to lose at least integrated mic support but might be worth it if the speakers work

I tried that kernel parameter. The good news is that alsa detects the soundcards:

But I still don't hear anything. alsamixer shows Master volume is at 100 and unmuted. I fiddled with speaker-test and pulseaudio commands, tried using headphones etc, but still nothing. I guess I'll file a bug report.

That's only the HDMI output (ie. the "soundcard" of the GPU)
